And The Barun valley is a part of a huge international protected area under the agreement between the governments of Nepal and China, which comprises of 2330 sq. km of National Park and 830 sq. km of conservation area in Nepal alone.Trekking in the Makalu region takes you through the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park, from the steamy lowlands of Tumlingtar [460m], one of the least frequented areas of Nepal to the snowy heights of Makalu Base Camp [5000m] which is least visited by tourists like Nepal’s far west. With the views of the south face of Makalu, as well as Everest and Lhotse are truly regal and fantastic.
